For the past twnety years, I have been trying to find a framework that allows people to continually examine themselves until they are able to reconstruct an inner picture of who they have been, who they currently are, and who they might become. I write, teach, consult and speak about structured self-reflection in career development, wellness, and counseling. I finally developed a self-help system, called the Mayan Tree of Life (MTOL) System for helping people look at themselves so that they can begin to identify recurring traits, thoughts, feels, and behaviors. The MTOL System can be effectively used to help people explore many facets of themselves so that a complete picture of each individual emerges, providing them with a fuller and more accurate self-portrait.
